2d902671ce vfs: merge .d_select_inode() into .d_real()
The two methods essentially do the same: find the real dentry/inode
belonging to an overlay dentry. The difference is in the usage:

vfs_open() uses ->d_select_inode() and expects the function to perform
copy-up if necessary based on the open flags argument.

file_dentry() uses ->d_real() passing in the overlay dentry as well as the
underlying inode.

vfs_rename() uses ->d_select_inode() but passes zero flags. ->d_real()
with a zero inode would have worked just as well here.

This patch merges the functionality of ->d_select_inode() into ->d_real()
by adding an 'open_flags' argument to the latter.

[Al Viro] Make the signature of d_real() match that of ->d_real() again.
And constify the inode argument, while we are at it.

a53e35db70 reset: Ensure drivers are explicit when requesting reset lines
Phasing out generic reset line requests enables us to make some better
decisions on when and how to (de)assert said lines. If an 'exclusive'
line is requested, we know a device *requires* a reset and that it's
preferable to act upon a request right away. However, if a 'shared'
reset line is requested, we can reasonably assume sure that placing a
device into reset isn't a hard requirement, but probably a measure to
save power and is thus able to cope with not being asserted if another
device is still in use.

In order allow gentle adoption and not to forcing all consumers to
move to the API immediately, causing administration headache between
subsystems, this patch adds some temporary stand-in shim-calls. This
will ease the burden at merge time and allow subsystems to migrate over
to the new API in a more realistic time-frame.

be forced to be explicit when requesting reset lines. The choice

The new API will look like this once reorded and complete:

  reset_control_get_optional_exclusive()
  reset_control_get_optional_shared()
  of_reset_control_get_exclusive()

abd3147e69 ASoC: add new simple-card-utils.c
Current ALSA SoC has simple-card driver which is supporting both
platform and DT probe.
Now, some sound cards driver are created based on simple-card.
They have similar feature or function, but implemented separately
on each drivers. This is a waste of code.
OTOH, merging these driver into same driver is highly risk,
because it will be very difficult to keep compatibility.
More over, ALSA SoC want to have graph base of DT feature in the
future. Maybe it want to use simple-card like feature / function.
Because of these background, this patch creates simple-card
helper utils, and provides common function to each drivers.
1st is asoc_simple_card_parse_daifmt()

usb: patches for v4.8 merge window

Here's the big pull request for Peripheral stack and
all related drivers.

This time around with 109 non-merge commits mostly
concentrated on drivers/usb/gadget/udc (41.5%) and
drivers/usb/dwc3 (28.1%).

There's a big rework on dwc3's transfer handling
which gave us almost 3x faster USB3 speeds with Mass
Storage on a particular test scenario I measured. We
are also removing platform_data from dwc3 after
converting all users to built-in properties instead.

For the Gadget API, we're just adding tracepoints to
aid debugging activities.

Other than these, there's the usual set of spelling
fixes, minor bug fixes and sparse warnings cleanups.

9a9b6aa6a8 Input: add SW_PEN_INSERTED define
Some devices with a pen may have a switch that can be used to detect
when the pen is inserted or removed to a slot on the device. Let's add
a define to the input event codes so that everyone can be on the same
page for what event we should generate when the pen is inserted or
removed.

In general the pen switch could be used by the software on the device to
kick off any number of actions when the pen is inserted or removed.

053239987f soc: renesas: rcar-sysc: Move SYSC interrupt config to rcar-sysc driver
On R-Car H1 and Gen2, the SYSC interrupt registers are always configured
using hardcoded values in platform code. For R-Car Gen2, values are
provided for H2 and M2-W only, other SoCs are not yet supported, and
never will be.

Move this configuration from SoC-specific platform code to the
rcar_sysc_init() wrapper, so it can be skipped if the SYSC is configured
from DT. This would be the case not only for H1, H2, and M2-W using a
modern DTS, but also for other R-Car Gen2 SoCs not supported by the
platform code, relying purely on DT.

There is no longer a need to return the mapped register block, hence
make the function return void.

ceb5607035 bpf, perf: delay release of BPF prog after grace period
Commit dead9f29dd ("perf: Fix race in BPF program unregister") moved
destruction of BPF program from free_event_rcu() callback to __free_event(),
which is problematic if used with tail calls: if prog A is attached as
trace event directly, but at the same time present in a tail call map used
by another trace event program elsewhere, then we need to delay destruction
via RCU grace period since it can still be in use by the program doing the
tail call (the prog first needs to be dropped from the tail call map, then
trace event with prog A attached destroyed, so we get immediate destruction).

The are already cases when pm_genpd_init() can fail. Currently we hide the

Moreover, to prepare for future changes like moving away from using a

an error code, as allocation can fail.

Current users of the pm_genpd_init() is thus requested to start dealing
with error codes. In the transition phase, users will have to live with
only error messages being printed to log.

e81b87d22a clk: Provide notifier stubs when !COMMON_CLK
The clk notifier symbols are hidden by COMMON_CLK. However on some
platforms HAVE_CLK might be set while COMMON_CLK not which leads to
compile test build errors like:

$ make.cross ARCH=sh
   drivers/devfreq/tegra-devfreq.c: In function 'tegra_actmon_rate_notify_cb':
>> drivers/devfreq/tegra-devfreq.c:391:16: error: 'POST_RATE_CHANGE' undeclared (first use in this function)
     if (action != POST_RATE_CHANGE)
                   ^
   drivers/devfreq/tegra-devfreq.c: In function 'tegra_devfreq_probe':
>> drivers/devfreq/tegra-devfreq.c:654:8: error: implicit declaration of function 'clk_notifier_register' [-Werror=implicit-function-declaration]
     err = clk_notifier_register(tegra->emc_clock, &tegra->rate_change_nb);
           ^

Export the macros and data type declarations outside of COMMON_CLK ifdef
and provide stubs to fix the compile testing.

a922eb8d45 drm/i915: Removing PCI IDs that are no longer listed as Kabylake.
This is unusual. Usually IDs listed on early stages of platform
definition are kept there as reserved for later use.

However these IDs here are not listed anymore in any of steppings
and devices IDs tables for Kabylake on configurations overview
section of BSpec.

So it is better removing them before they become used in any
other future platform.

3f5be2da85 audit: move audit_get_tty to reduce scope and kabi changes
The only users of audit_get_tty and audit_put_tty are internal to
audit, so move it out of include/linux/audit.h to kernel.h and create
a proper function rather than inlining it. This also reduces kABI
changes.

cbf9077e58 max8903: cleans up confusing relationship between dc_valid, dok and dcm.
The max8903_charger.h file indicated that dcm and dok were not optional
when dc_valid is set.

It makes sense to have dok as a compulsory pin when dc_valid is given.
However dcm can be optionally wired to a fixed level especially when the
circuit is configured for dc power exclusively.

The previous implementation already allowed for this somewhat, however no
error was given if dok wasn't given whilst dc_valid was.

The new implementation enforces dok presence when dc_valid is given. Whilst
allowing dcm to be optional.

9828c2c6c1 block: Convert fifo_time from ulong to u64
Currently rq->fifo_time is unsigned long but CFQ stores nanosecond
timestamp in it which would overflow on 32-bit archs. Convert it to u64
to avoid the overflow. Since the rq->fifo_time is unioned with struct
call_single_data(), this does not change the size of struct request in
any way.

We have to slightly fixup block/deadline-iosched.c so that comparison
happens in the right types.
