genirq: Synchronize interrupt thread startup
commit 8707898e22fd665bc1d7b18b809be4b56ce25bdd upstream. A kernel hang can be observed when running setserial in a loop on a kernel with force threaded interrupts. The sequence of events is: setserial open("/dev/ttyXXX") request_irq() do_stuff() -> serial interrupt -> wake(irq_thread) desc->threads_active++; close() free_irq() kthread_stop(irq_thread) synchronize_irq() <- hangs because desc->threads_active != 0 The thread is created in request_irq() and woken up, but does not get on a CPU to reach the actual thread function, which would handle the pending wake-up. kthread_stop() sets the should stop condition which makes the thread immediately exit, which in turn leaves the stale threads_active count around. This problem was introduced with commit |

genirq/affinity: Consider that CPUs on nodes can be unbalanced
commit 08d835dff916bfe8f45acc7b92c7af6c4081c8a7 upstream.
If CPUs on a node are offline at boot time, the number of nodes is
different when building affinity masks for present cpus and when building
affinity masks for possible cpus. This causes the following problem:
In the case that the number of vectors is less than the number of nodes
there are cases where bits of masks for present cpus are overwritten when
building masks for possible cpus.
Fix this by excluding CPUs, which are not part of the current build mask
(present/possible).

genirq/timings: Prevent potential array overflow in __irq_timings_store()
commit b9cc7d8a4656a6e815852c27ab50365009cb69c1 upstream.
When the interrupt interval is greater than 2 ^ PREDICTION_BUFFER_SIZE *
PREDICTION_FACTOR us and less than 1s, the calculated index will be greater
than the length of irqs->ema_time[]. Check the calculated index before
using it to prevent array overflow.

genirq/msi: Ensure deactivation on teardown
commit dbbc93576e03fbe24b365fab0e901eb442237a8a upstream.
msi_domain_alloc_irqs() invokes irq_domain_activate_irq(), but
msi_domain_free_irqs() does not enforce deactivation before tearing down
the interrupts.
This happens when PCI/MSI interrupts are set up and never used before being
torn down again, e.g. in error handling pathes. The only place which cleans
that up is the error handling path in msi_domain_alloc_irqs().
Move the cleanup from msi_domain_alloc_irqs() into msi_domain_free_irqs()
to cure that.

genirq: Provide IRQCHIP_AFFINITY_PRE_STARTUP
commit 826da771291fc25a428e871f9e7fb465e390f852 upstream.
X86 IO/APIC and MSI interrupts (when used without interrupts remapping)
require that the affinity setup on startup is done before the interrupt is
enabled for the first time as the non-remapped operation mode cannot safely
migrate enabled interrupts from arbitrary contexts. Provide a new irq chip
flag which allows affected hardware to request this.
This has to be opt-in because there have been reports in the past that some
interrupt chips cannot handle affinity setting before startup.

FROMLIST: genirq: Allow an interrupt to be marked as 'raw'
Some interrupts (such as the rescheduling IPI) rely on not going through the irq_enter()/irq_exit() calls. To distinguish such interrupts, add a new IRQ flag that allows the low-level handling code to sidestep the enter()/exit() calls. Only the architecture code is expected to use this. It will do the wrong thing on normal interrupts. Note that this is a band-aid until we can move to some more correct infrastructure (such as kernel/entry/common.c). FROMLIST: genirq: Add __irq_modify_status() helper to clear/set special flags
Some arch-specific flags need to be set/cleared, but not exposed to random device drivers. Introduce a new helper (__irq_modify_status()) that takes an arbitrary mask, and rewrite irq_modify_status() to use this new helper. No functionnal change. genirq/matrix: Prevent allocation counter corruption
[ Upstream commit c93a5e20c3c2dabef8ea360a3d3f18c6f68233ab ] When irq_matrix_free() is called for an unallocated vector the managed_allocated and total_allocated counters get out of sync with the real state of the matrix. Later, when the last interrupt is freed, these counters will underflow resulting in UINTMAX because the counters are unsigned. While this is certainly a problem of the calling code, this can be catched in the allocator by checking the allocation bit for the to be freed vector which simplifies debugging. An example of the problem described above: https://lore.kernel.org/lkml/20210318192819.636943062@linutronix.de/ Add the missing sanity check and emit a warning when it triggers. ANDROID: irq: manage: Export irq_do_set_affinity symbol
Vendor kernel modules may implement irq balancers, which could take irq desc lock of an irq and then based on current affinity mask or affinity hint, reconfigure the affinity of that irq. For example : For an irq, for which affinity is broken i.e. all the cpus in its affinity mask have gone offline. For such irqs, we might want to reset the affinity, when the original set of affined cpus, come back online. desc->affinity_hint can be used for figuring out the original affinity. So, the sequence for doing this becomes: desc = irq_to_desc(i); raw_spin_lock(&desc->lock); affinity = desc->affinity_hint; raw_spin_unlock(&desc->lock); irq_set_affinity_hint(i, affinity); Here, we need to release the desc lock before calling the exported api irq_set_affinity_hint(). This creates a window where, after unlocking desc lock and before calling irq_set_affinity_hint(), where this setting can race with other irq_set_affinity_hint() callers. So, export irq_do_set_affinity() symbol to provide an api, which can be called with desc lock held. genirq: Disable interrupts for force threaded handlers
commit 81e2073c175b887398e5bca6c004efa89983f58d upstream.
With interrupt force threading all device interrupt handlers are invoked
from kernel threads. Contrary to hard interrupt context the invocation only
disables bottom halfs, but not interrupts. This was an oversight back then
because any code like this will have an issue:
thread(irq_A)
irq_handler(A)
spin_lock(&foo->lock);
interrupt(irq_B)
irq_handler(B)
spin_lock(&foo->lock);
This has been triggered with networking (NAPI vs. hrtimers) and console
drivers where printk() happens from an interrupt which interrupted the
force threaded handler.
Now people noticed and started to change the spin_lock() in the handler to
spin_lock_irqsave() which affects performance or add IRQF_NOTHREAD to the
interrupt request which in turn breaks RT.
Fix the root cause and not the symptom and disable interrupts before
invoking the force threaded handler which preserves the regular semantics
and the usefulness of the interrupt force threading as a general debugging
tool.
For not RT this is not changing much, except that during the execution of
the threaded handler interrupts are delayed until the handler
returns. Vs. scheduling and softirq processing there is no difference.
For RT kernels there is no issue.

UPSTREAM: irqdomain: Mark fwnodes when their irqdomain is added/removed
This allows fw_devlink to recognize irqdomain drivers that don't use the device-driver model to initialize the device. fw_devlink will use this information to make sure consumers of such irqdomain aren't indefinitely blocked from probing, waiting for the irqdomain device to appear and bind to a driver. genirq/msi: Activate Multi-MSI early when MSI_FLAG_ACTIVATE_EARLY is set
commit 4c457e8cb75eda91906a4f89fc39bde3f9a43922 upstream.
When MSI_FLAG_ACTIVATE_EARLY is set (which is the case for PCI),
__msi_domain_alloc_irqs() performs the activation of the interrupt (which
in the case of PCI results in the endpoint being programmed) as soon as the
interrupt is allocated.
But it appears that this is only done for the first vector, introducing an
inconsistent behaviour for PCI Multi-MSI.
Fix it by iterating over the number of vectors allocated to each MSI
descriptor. This is easily achieved by introducing a new
"for_each_msi_vector" iterator, together with a tiny bit of refactoring.

UPSTREAM: driver core: Add fwnode_init()
There are multiple locations in the kernel where a struct fwnode_handle is initialized. Add fwnode_init() so that we have one way of initializing a fwnode_handle. ANDROID: irqdesc: Export symbol for vendor modules
Export kstat_irqs_usr and kstat_irqs_cpu symbols for vendor loadable modules. These symbols are useful for continuous monitoring of irq stats to detect problems like interrupt storms. 1) kstat_irqs_usr: it helps in getting total interrupt count for an IRQ. 2) kstat_irqs_cpu: it helps in getting per cpu interrupt count for an IRQ. ANDROID: irq/proc: use active cpus for allowed irq affinity
With the introduction of pause, irqs should avoid paused cpus. Previously, when userspace set the irq affinity, it was only filtered toward online cpus. A cpu can be paused but online, and irqs should avoid. Check the cpu_active_mask instead of the online mask when writing the irq affinity, such that the subset of cpus allowed doesn't include inactive cpus. genirq/irqdomain: Don't try to free an interrupt that has no mapping
[ Upstream commit 4615fbc3788ddc8e7c6d697714ad35a53729aa2c ]
When an interrupt allocation fails for N interrupts, it is pretty
common for the error handling code to free the same number of interrupts,
no matter how many interrupts have actually been allocated.
This may result in the domain freeing code to be unexpectedly called
for interrupts that have no mapping in that domain. Things end pretty
badly.
Instead, add some checks to irq_domain_free_irqs_hierarchy() to make sure
that thiss does not follow the hierarchy if no mapping exists for a given
interrupt.

genirq/irqdomain: Add an irq_create_mapping_affinity() function
There is currently no way to convey the affinity of an interrupt
via irq_create_mapping(), which creates issues for devices that
expect that affinity to be managed by the kernel.
In order to sort this out, rename irq_create_mapping() to
irq_create_mapping_affinity() with an additional affinity parameter that
can be passed down to irq_domain_alloc_descs().
irq_create_mapping() is re-implemented as a wrapper around
irq_create_mapping_affinity().
No functional change.

task_work: cleanup notification modes
A previous commit changed the notification mode from true/false to an
int, allowing notify-no, notify-yes, or signal-notify. This was
backwards compatible in the sense that any existing true/false user
would translate to either 0 (on notification sent) or 1, the latter
which mapped to TWA_RESUME. TWA_SIGNAL was assigned a value of 2.
Clean this up properly, and define a proper enum for the notification
mode. Now we have:
- TWA_NONE. This is 0, same as before the original change, meaning no
notification requested.
- TWA_RESUME. This is 1, same as before the original change, meaning
that we use TIF_NOTIFY_RESUME.
- TWA_SIGNAL. This uses TIF_SIGPENDING/JOBCTL_TASK_WORK for the
notification.
Clean up all the callers, switching their 0/1/false/true to using the
appropriate TWA_* mode for notifications.

genirq/irqdomain: Allow partial trimming of irq_data hierarchy
It appears that some HW is ugly enough that not all the interrupts connected to a particular interrupt controller end up with the same hierarchy depth (some of them are terminated early). This leaves the irqchip hacker with only two choices, both equally bad: - create discrete domain chains, one for each "hierarchy depth", which is very hard to maintain - create fake hierarchy levels for the shallow paths, leading to all kind of problems (what are the safe hwirq values for these fake levels?) Implement the ability to cut short a single interrupt hierarchy from a level marked as being disconnected by using the new irq_domain_disconnect_hierarchy() helper. The irqdomain allocation code will then perform the trimming Signed-off-by: Marc Zyngier <maz@kernel.org> |

genirq/PM: Introduce IRQCHIP_ENABLE_WAKEUP_ON_SUSPEND flag
An interrupt that is disabled/masked but set for wakeup may still need to be able to wake up the system from sleep states like "suspend to RAM". To that effect, introduce the IRQCHIP_ENABLE_WAKEUP_ON_SUSPEND flag. If the irqchip have this flag set, the irq PM code will enable/unmask the irqs that are marked for wakeup, but that are in a disabled state. On resume, such irqs will be restored back to their disabled state. FROMGIT: genirq: Walk the irq_data hierarchy when resending an interrupt
On resending an interrupt, we only check the outermost irqchip for
a irq_retrigger callback. However, this callback could be implemented
at an inner level. Use irq_chip_retrigger_hierarchy() in this case.

FROMGIT: genirq: Allow interrupts to be excluded from /proc/interrupts
A number of architectures implement IPI statistics directly,
duplicating the core kstat_irqs accounting. As we move IPIs to
being actual IRQs, we would end-up with a confusing display
in /proc/interrupts (where the IPIs would appear twice).
In order to solve this, allow interrupts to be flagged as
"hidden", which excludes them from /proc/interrupts.

FROMGIT: genirq: Add fasteoi IPI flow
For irqchips using the fasteoi flow, IPIs are a bit special.
They need to be EOI'd early (before calling the handler), as
funny things may happen in the handler (they do not necessarily
behave like a normal interrupt).
