32582f82df media: Revert "media: em28xx: add missing em28xx_close_extension"
[ Upstream commit fde18c3bac3f964d8333ae53b304d8fee430502b ]

This reverts commit 2c98b8a3458df03abdc6945bbef67ef91d181938.

Reverted patch causes problems with Hauppauge WinTV dualHD as Maximilian
reported [1]. Since quick solution didn't come up let's just revert it
to make this device work with upstream kernels.

ec8a37b2d9 media: em28xx: initialize refcount before kref_get
[ Upstream commit c08eadca1bdfa099e20a32f8fa4b52b2f672236d ]

The commit 47677e51e2a4("[media] em28xx: Only deallocate struct
em28xx after finishing all extensions") adds kref_get to many init
functions (e.g., em28xx_audio_init). However, kref_init is called too
late in em28xx_usb_probe, since em28xx_init_dev before will invoke
those init functions and call kref_get function. Then refcount bug
occurs in my local syzkaller instance.

Fix it by moving kref_init before em28xx_init_dev. This issue occurs
not only in dev but also dev->dev_next.

0ff0ae69d2 media: em28xx: fix memory leak in em28xx_init_dev
[ Upstream commit 22be5a10d0b24eec9e45decd15d7e6112b25f080 ]

In the em28xx_init_rev, if em28xx_audio_setup fails, this function fails
to deallocate the media_dev allocated in the em28xx_media_device_init.

Fix this by adding em28xx_unregister_media_device to free media_dev.

BTW, this patch is tested in my local syzkaller instance, and it can
prevent the memory leak from occurring again.

519ad41a09 media: em28xx-input: fix refcount bug in em28xx_usb_disconnect
[ Upstream commit 6fa54bc713c262e1cfbc5613377ef52280d7311f ]

If em28xx_ir_init fails, it would decrease the refcount of dev. However,
in the em28xx_ir_fini, when ir is NULL, it goes to ref_put and decrease
the refcount of dev. This will lead to a refcount bug.

Fix this bug by removing the kref_put in the error handling code
of em28xx_ir_init.

If some error occurs, URB buffers should also be freed. If they aren't
freed with the dvb here, the em28xx_dvb_fini call doesn't frees the URB
buffers as dvb is set to NULL. The function in which error occurs should
do all the cleanup for the allocations it had done.

Tested the patch with the reproducer provided by syzbot. This patch

When kzalloc() fails, em28xx_uninit_usb_xfer() will free
usb_bufs->buf and set it to NULL. Thus the later access
to usb_bufs->buf[i] will lead to null pointer dereference.
Also the kfree(usb_bufs->buf) after that is redundant.

771560e5d3 media: media/usb: Use kmemdup rather than duplicating its implementation
kmemdup is introduced to duplicate a region of memory in a neat way.
Rather than kmalloc/kzalloc + memcpy, which the programmer needs to
write the size twice (sometimes lead to mistakes), kmemdup improves
readability, leads to smaller code and also reduce the chances of mistakes.
Suggestion to use kmemdup rather than using kmalloc/kzalloc + memcpy.

The priv field of struct v4l2_pix_format shouldn't be set by drivers,

This patch disables the null packet filter for the Hauppauge

157eb9a0b7 media: em28xx: explicitly disable TS packet filter
The em28xx driver never touched the EM2874 register bits that control
the transport stream packet filters, leaving them at whatever default
the firmware has set. E.g. the Pinnacle 290e disables them by default,
while the Hauppauge WinTV dualHD enables discarding NULL packets by
default.

However, some applications require NULL packets, e.g. to determine the
load in DOCSIS segments, so discarding NULL packets is undesired for
such applications.

This patch simply extends the bit mask when starting or stopping the
transport stream packet capture, so that the filter bits are cleared.
It has been verified that this makes the Hauppauge WinTV dualHD pass
an unfiltered DVB-C stream including NULL packets, which it didn't
before.
