If device_register() returns error in ibmebus_bus_init(), name of kobject
which is allocated in dev_set_name() called in device_add() is leaked.
As comment of device_add() says, it should call put_device() to drop
the reference count that was set in device_initialize() when it fails,
so the name can be freed in kobject_cleanup().

lppaca_shared_proc() takes a pointer to the lppaca which is typically
accessed through get_lppaca(). With DEBUG_PREEMPT enabled, this leads
to checking if preemption is enabled, for example:

This isn't actually a problem however, as it does not matter which
lppaca is accessed, the shared proc state will be the same.
vcpudispatch_stats_procfs_init() already works around this by disabling
preemption, but the lparcfg code does not, erroring any time
/proc/powerpc/lparcfg is accessed with DEBUG_PREEMPT enabled.
Instead of disabling preemption on the caller side, rework
lppaca_shared_proc() to not take a pointer and instead directly access
the lppaca, bypassing any potential preemption checks.

Currently pointer iov is being dereferenced before the null check of iov
which can lead to null pointer dereference errors. Fix this by moving the
iov null check before the dereferencing.

Platform device helper routines won't update the NUMA distance table
while creating a platform device, even if the device is present on a
NUMA node that doesn't have memory or CPU. This is especially true for
pmem devices. If the target node of the pmem device is not online, we
find the nearest online node to the device and associate the pmem device
with that online node. To find the nearest online node, we should have
the numa distance table updated correctly. Update the distance
information during the device probe.
For a papr scm device on NUMA node 3 distance_lookup_table value for
distance_ref_points_depth = 2 before and after fix is below:

PAPR interface currently supports two different ways of communicating resource
grouping details to the OS. These are referred to as Form 0 and Form 1
associativity grouping. Form 0 is the older format and is now considered
deprecated. This patch adds another resource grouping named FORM2.

The associativity details of the newly added resourced are collected from
the hypervisor via "ibm,configure-connector" rtas call. Update the numa
distance details of the newly added numa node after the above call.
Instead of updating NUMA distance every time we lookup a node id
from the associativity property, add helpers that can be used
during boot which does this only once. Also remove the distance
update from node id lookup helpers.
Currently, we duplicate parsing code for ibm,associativity and
ibm,associativity-lookup-arrays in the kernel. The associativity array provided
by these device tree properties are very similar and hence can use
a helper to parse the node id and numa distance details.

which indicate that the caller should try again.
lparcfg's parse_system_parameter_string() ignores this, making it
possible to intermittently report incorrect SPLPAR characteristics.
Move the RTAS call into a coventional rtas_busy_delay()-based loop.

pnv_ioda_setup_pe_res() calls opal to map a resource with a PE. However,
the code assumes the resource is allocated and it uses the resource
address to find out the segment(s) which need to be mapped to the
PE. In the unlikely case where the resource hasn't been allocated, the

Hitting the problem is not that easy. It was seen with a (semi-bogus)
PCI device with a class code of 0. The generic PCI framework doesn't
allocate resources in such a case.
The patch is simply skipping resources which are still flagged with
IORESOURCE_UNSET.
We don't have the problem with 64-bit mem resources, as the address of
the resource is checked to be within the range of the 64-bit mmio
window. See pnv_ioda_reserve_dev_m64_pe() and pnv_pci_is_m64().

rtas-error-log-max is not the name of an RTAS function, so rtas_token()
is not the appropriate API for retrieving its value. We already have
rtas_get_error_log_max() which returns a sensible value if the property
is absent for any reason, so use that instead.

On VMs with NX encryption, compression, and/or RNG offload, these
capabilities are described by nodes in the ibm,platform-facilities device
tree hierarchy:

The acceleration functions that these nodes describe are not disrupted by
live migration, not even temporarily.
But the post-migration ibm,update-nodes sequence firmware always sends
"delete" messages for this hierarchy, followed by an "add" directive to
reconstruct it via ibm,configure-connector (log with debugging statements
enabled in mobility.c):

Note we receive a single "add" message for the entire hierarchy, and what
we receive from the ibm,configure-connector sequence is the top-level
platform-facilities node along with its three children. The debug message
simply reports the parent node and not the whole subtree.
Also, significantly, the nodes added are almost completely equivalent to
the ones removed; even phandles are unchanged. ibm,shared-interrupt-pool in
the leaf nodes is the only property I've observed to differ, and Linux does
not use that. So in practice, the sum of update messages Linux receives for
this hierarchy is equivalent to minor property updates.
We succeed in removing the original hierarchy from the device tree. But the
vio bus code is ignorant of this, and does not unbind or relinquish its
references. The leaf nodes, still reachable through sysfs, of course still
refer to the now-freed ibm,platform-facilities parent node, which makes
use-after-free possible:

This is because add_dt_node() -> dlpar_attach_node() attaches only the
parent node returned from configure-connector, ignoring any children. This
should be corrected for the general case, but fixing that won't help with
the stale OF node references, which is the more urgent problem.
One way to address that would be to make the drivers respond to node
removal notifications, so that node references can be dropped
appropriately. But this would likely force the drivers to disrupt active
clients for no useful purpose: equivalent nodes are immediately re-added.
And recall that the acceleration capabilities described by the nodes remain
available throughout the whole process.
The solution I believe to be robust for this situation is to convert
remove+add of a node with an unchanged phandle to an update of the node's
properties in the Linux device tree structure. That would involve changing
and adding a fair amount of code, and may take several iterations to land.
Until that can be realized we have a confirmed use-after-free and the
possibility of memory corruption. So add a limited workaround that
discriminates on the node type, ignoring adds and removes. This should be
amenable to backporting in the meantime.

In pseries_devicetree_update(), with each call to ibm,update-nodes the
partition firmware communicates the node to be deleted or updated by
placing its phandle in the work buffer. Each of delete_dt_node(),
update_dt_node(), and add_dt_node() have duplicate lookups using the
phandle value and corresponding refcount management.
Move the lookup and of_node_put() into pseries_devicetree_update(),
and emit a warning on any failed lookups.

the option -mcpu=powerpc is passed to GCC at all time, relying on it
being eventually overriden by a subsequent -mcpu=xxxx.
But when building the same kernel with a 32 bits only version of GCC,
that is not done, relying on gcc being built with the expected default
CPU.
This logic has two problems. First, it is a bit fragile to rely on
whether the GCC version is bi-arch or not, because today we can have
bi-arch versions of GCC configured with a 32 bits default. Second,
there are some versions of GCC which don't support -mcpu=powerpc,
for instance for e500 SPE-only versions.
So, stop relying on this approximative logic and allow the user to
decide whether he/she wants to use the toolchain's default CPU or if
he/she wants to set one, and allow only possible CPUs based on the
selected target.

Commit 0e00a8c9fd ("powerpc: Allow CPU selection also on PPC32")
enlarged the CPU selection logic to PPC32 by removing depend to
PPC64, and failed to restrict that depend to E5500_CPU and E6500_CPU.
Fortunately that got unnoticed because -mcpu=8540 will override the
-mcpu=e500mc64 or -mpcu=e6500 as they are ealier, but that's
fragile and may no be right in the future.
Add back the depend PPC64 on E5500_CPU and E6500_CPU.

On a bare-metal Power8 system that doesn't have an "ibm,power-rng", a
malicious QEMU and guest that ignore the absence of the
KVM_CAP_PPC_HWRNG flag, and calls H_RANDOM anyway, will dereference a
NULL pointer.
In practice all Power8 machines have an "ibm,power-rng", but let's not
rely on that, add a NULL check and early return in
powernv_get_random_real_mode().

The platform's RNG must be available before random_init() in order to be
useful for initial seeding, which in turn means that it needs to be
called from setup_arch(), rather than from an init call. Fortunately,
each platform already has a setup_arch function pointer, which means
it's easy to wire this up. This commit also removes some noisy log
messages that don't add much.

Complicating things, however, is that POWER8 systems need some per-cpu
state and kmalloc, which isn't available at this stage. So we split
things up into an early phase and a later opportunistic phase. This
commit also removes some noisy log messages that don't add much.

The dssall ("Data Stream Stop All") instruction is obsolete altogether
with other Data Cache Instructions since ISA 2.03 (year 2006).
LLVM IAS does not support it but PPC970 seems to be using it.
This switches dssall to .long as there is no much point in fixing LLVM.

__setup() handlers should return 1 to obsolete_checksetup() in
init/main.c to indicate that the boot option has been handled.
A return of 0 causes the boot option/value to be listed as an Unknown
kernel parameter and added to init's (limited) argument or environment
strings.
Also, error return codes don't mean anything to obsolete_checksetup() --
only non-zero (usually 1) or zero. So return 1 from cpm_powersave_off().

In init_winctx_regs(), __pa() is called on winctx->rx_fifo and this
function is called to initialize registers for receive and fault
windows. But the real address is passed in winctx->rx_fifo for
receive windows and the virtual address for fault windows which
causes errors with DEBUG_VIRTUAL enabled. Fixes this issue by
assigning only real address to rx_fifo in vas_rx_win_attr struct
for both receive and fault windows.

Dump capture would fail if capture kernel is not of the endianess as the
production kernel, because the in-memory data structure (struct
opal_fadump_mem_struct) shared across production kernel and capture
kernel assumes the same endianess for both the kernels, which doesn't
have to be true always. Fix it by having a well-defined endianess for
struct opal_fadump_mem_struct.

Rework to add assembler directives [1] around the instruction. Going

are only called in things that are powernv or book3s_hv specific.

Commit a21d1becaa3f ("powerpc: Reintroduce is_kvm_guest() as a fast-path
check") added is_kvm_guest() and changed kvm_para_available() to use it.
is_kvm_guest() checks a static key, kvm_guest, and that static key is
set in check_kvm_guest().
The problem is check_kvm_guest() is only called on pseries, and even
then only in some configurations. That means is_kvm_guest() always
returns false on all non-pseries and some pseries depending on
configuration. That's a bug.
For PR KVM guests this is noticable because they no longer do live
patching of themselves, which can be detected by the omission of a
message in dmesg such as:
KVM: Live patching for a fast VM worked
To fix it make check_kvm_guest() an initcall, to ensure it's always
called at boot. It needs to be core so that it runs before
kvm_guest_init() which is postcore. To be an initcall it needs to return
int, where 0 means success, so update that.
We still call it manually in pSeries_smp_probe(), because that runs
before init calls are run.
